Room Parent Volunteers

Class Communication/Volunteer Coordinator

Position Description:

• Serve as liaison between teacher and parents
• Serve as liaison between teacher and Room Parent Committee
• Liaison to VP Communications 
• Secure parent volunteers for classroom and various SHPCI programs

Duties:

• Set up class email distribution list
• Forward periodic email communications regarding classroom events and teacher needs
• Disseminate information and/or delegate requests to other Room Parent Committee members 
• Secure parent volunteers for classroom activities and field trips; develop and disseminate a monthly volunteer schedule (depending on the individual teacher’s needs)
• Secure parent volunteers for various SHPCI programs, including Pumpkin Patch, Think First, Math in the Garden and Library

 

Class Parties Co-Chair (1-2 needed)

Position Description:

Coordinate class parties and events, including Halloween and Valentine’s Day

Optional: plan 1-2 social events outside of school, such as a Parent Party or Moms’ Night Out

Duties:

• Coordinate class parties, including games, projects, refreshments and decorations, with input and guidelines from your teacher
  • Please invite and then coordinate additional parent support and participation at those parties
  • Delegate tasks, such as shopping for decorations or craft materials, room decorating and set-up, managing stations and clean-up
  • Find out if there is a child with allergies or special needs in your class
  • Try your best to make healthy (but fun) choices when selected food and drink items

 

Class Teacher/Aide Gift & Appreciation Chair (1-2 needed)

Position Description:

Recognize all teacher’s and aide’s dedication to our students by providing thoughtful gifts and acts of appreciation 

Duties:

• Winter and Year-End Gifts
  • Parent Club President and Vice President will give out gift cards to the Staff, Aides and Teachers before the Holidays
  • The Teacher Appreciation Committee will be giving out small gifts to the Aides and Staff.
  • Each room chair will be responsible for their teacher’s small gift: They should develop a low-cost, creative, home-made item to accompany the teacher’s gift card the week before winter break. (To be given separately, no coordination needed with President and Vice President)
    • For example, secure painted hand prints of each child on an apron; take a class photo and display it in a decorative frame; make a collage; make a batch of cookies; cut flowers from your garden; simply pop the gift card into a beautifully wrapped present; etc. 
    • Please note that additional gifts and tokens of appreciation for teachers and aides is not reimbursable.  
    • Send out an email to the parents in advance of giving each gift, providing a description and reminder of what is being given and asking for help at home if you need the students to help create a cute card, etc.
  • Inform the parents that they already contributed to the class gifts through their Welcome Day donations; there is no need to give additional gifts.
  • Year End Gifts for teachers: Same concept as the Holiday Gifts, something small as a token of thanks for the teacher’s work. Examples are cards and flowers from the student’s gardens thanking them for a wonderful year.
• Recognize teacher birthdays
  • Find out your teacher birthdates – the Teacher Appreciation committee will be sending you the list and also sending you reminders about the upcoming birthday.
  • Each Room Chair should Inform parents of the birthdates as they occur.
  • Provide a kind gesture from the class, such as a card, flowers or balloons. There is a folder in the front office with most of the teacher’s birthdays favorite foods, colors, etc. If you cannot find your teacher’s list. Ask them to fill one out, there are always extras in the front of the folder they can use to fill out and leave for the TA committee and Room Chairs to review.
  • It is okay to send a note to the parent body asking if someone is willing to donate flowers, balloons, etc., but please emphasize that it certainly isn’t expected and we are not able to reimburse the expense.
  • Again, we are not able to reimburse chairs or parents for the additional token gifts.Find out your teacher and aide’s birthdates
• Teacher Appreciation
  • Serve as liaison to Teacher Appreciation Chairs.
  • Provide support throughout Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week as needed.  Activities include: Door Decorating, Providing a Special Box Lunch for the teacher (one day, generally the middle of the week), and supporting with the grade supplied meal for the teachers and staff. Each grade supports one day and you will be asked to sign up for a food or decorative item to bring.
  • Additional information and the schedule of events will be disseminated to all chairs closer to Teacher Appreciation Week. This week is generally held in the first few weeks of MAY.
  • Sign up to bring a food item for the Monthly grade hosted luncheons.
    • The Parents Club hosts lunch once a month for the teachers and staff, and we ask for the parents in a particular grade to help by bringing in a food item for the themed lunch.
    • Each grade usually hosts 2 lunches a year and the dates are set up at the beginning of the school year.
    • The Teacher Appreciation committee will get in touch with the Communication Chair in the classroom to send out links to sign up sheets for items needed.

 

Classroom Yearbook Photo Liaison

Position Description & Duties:

One fabulous parent will be responsible for gathering and uploading the years' classroom photos to a class file on the yearbook website.  No design required, the yearbook parents will take care of putting the yearbook together.

Photo ideas include daily classroom activities, field trips, recess, important events and parties throughout the school year.  We need a minimum of 24 photos.  Make sure to include each child at least once and at least two photos of the whole class together.  You may also gather photos from the teacher and other parents to upload to the yearbook site.  The teachers often have terrific photos.  Please use a digital camera; some photos from phones are not usable.  

 

Garden Liaison

Position Description & Duties:

The Garden Liaison will work with the teacher to support the teacher in executing the 45-minute garden experience once a month. S/he will coordinate parent volunteers for the class, and may need to source garden materials like seeds and seedlings, edible and planting, for which s/he will be reimbursed. A Garden Liaison orientation meeting will be held at the beginning of the school year.
