Principal's Welcome Day Letter

Dear Sleepy Hollow Families,

I hope you are enjoying the final weeks of the long summer vacation. As principal, it is always a privilege to welcome you and your student[s] to an exciting new school year.

The SH garden is under going some big changes. Thanks to Brigitte Koenig, Dana Chiappone, Peter Krimmel, Jesse Hurter, and former SH student, JP Nelson, our garden will be ready to use when the 2018-19 school year begins. It's going to be very exciting to watch our garden GROW!

In addition to our garden, I am also looking forward to launching the Sleepy Hollow STEAM lab. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.

We were able to convert one of our classrooms into this special space. All classes will be able to visit the STEAM lab throughout the year, enjoying a dedicated space to become innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!

Other important highlights as we start the school year are:

  • August 13 – Online Registration Forms Available

  • August 19 – Annual TK/Kinder & New Family Picnic at Dalewood Park 3-5pm

  • August 21 – Welcome Day 8-12pm in MPR

As we begin the new school year, remember that two community fundraising support organizations play a vital role in maintaining academic excellence at Sleepy Hollow School and in the Orinda Union School District: 1) Sleepy Hollow Parents Club (SHPC) and, 2) the Educational Foundation of Orinda (EFO). I encourage you to inquire how your financial contributions to both SHPC and EFO will help Sleepy Hollow School and OUSD.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call me at (925) 254-8711. Savor these last days of summer vacation. I look forward to seeing you very soon.
